What is a slider, anyway? Many people consider it to be a mini hamburger, but that has evolved into slew of mini sandwiches on buns named "sliders." There's a variety of places around town that make all sorts of sliders that the original White Castle would have never dreamed of. Here now is a map of restaurants, bars, and mobile eateries that serve sliders that might make you run to your urban dictionary.

Sable Kitchen & Bar

At Sable, they put a whimsical spin on sliders, and that spin is root beer. The short rib sliders are glazed with root beer and topped with crispy onions, a half-order runs $9.00.

Sumi Robata Bar

Chef Gene Kato is known for authentic robata-style grilling at Sumi Robata Bar, but he has a "Beef Tsukune Slider" on the menu as well. Luckily the meat blend, seasoned with Japanese seven spice, is wrapped in a housemade bao hot dog-style.

Bangers & Lace

Bangers & Lace has quite an extensive rotating craft beer, and sausage, selection. But for breakfast, they have sliders. The $8 mini meat sandwiches feature Irish bangers, creamed spinach, gruyere, hollandaise, and of course egg between an English muffin.

GT Fish and Oyster

Leave it to GT Fish & Oyster and chef Giuseppe Tentori to make an oyster slider. On the dinner menu, the sliders cost $4 each and are topped with kimchi and peanuts. There's also a similar slider made with pork belly on the lunch menu.

South Water Kitchen

Chicken salad might be more often spotted at delis or picnics, but South Water Kitchen serves it up in slider form. They come with dried cranberries, sage and walnuts.

The Slide Ride, as one might expect, dishes a variety of sliders out of their roaming slider truck. Right now the eight sliders include Guinness burger, gyro, Cubano, caprese, and Sriracha buffalo chicken.

A Gold Coast staple, Luxbar appropriately serves Gold Coast sliders. Among the three selections is a filet mignon and lobster slider with "maitre d' butter" for $7.50.

Sideline Grill serves 12 types of sliders, including a 1/3 pound "jumbo slider with fries." Sounds like a burger.

Rockit Burger Bar's burger lab produces a special burger a week that are sometimes made into sliders. Right now it's a char-grilled black angus slider with beer-battered fried bacon, habanero peanut coleslaw and roasted red pepper aioli.

River North Italian staple Quartino has their version of a slider on the wine bar plates section of the menu. It's a veal meatball slider with pomodoro sauce and giardiniera for just $2.50.
