Don't Have Whiskyfest Tickets? Here's Where Else to Go

Whiskyfest Chicago gives attendees the opportunity to sip over 300 whiskies from around the world, learn about the spirit in seminars, and otherwise completely geek out on the brown spirit's many forms. Unfortunately for many, tickets have been sold out for weeks. But those without tickets still have many opportunities to taste, learn, and partake in many whisky-themed deals this week. Here's where to do that.

Sable Kitchen & Bar

Sable Kitchen & Bar is hosting a five-course Scottish whisky-paired dinner April 23 from 7-9 p.m. in the Hotel Palomar ballroom. Dishes include "Pork and Beans" (grilled pork belly, jacob’s cattle beans, grilled ramps, sherry-thyme gastrique, crispy shallots) with Mortlach 15 Year.

Bistro Campagne

The theme is Koval Distillery at Bistro Campagne on April 23 at 6:30 p.m. Four courses feature cocktails made with Koval white whiskey, dark oat, dark rye, and bourbon for $65.

Untitled is hosting their own Whiskyfest, titled American Whiskyfest, on April 25. Over 50 whiskey samples and distillery representatives from Heaven Hill, Maker's Mark, and Great Lakes Distillery will be available. Tickets are $50 or $75 at the door.

Jerry's Sandwiches

Jerry's Wicker Park will have Waco, Texas' Balcones Distillery and master distiller Chip Tate in the house on April 24 for a four-course dinner running $50. Balcones recently won "Best in Glass" at a blind tasting in London.

Poag Mahone's

For free tastings of the most popular whiskey in the country check out Poag Mahone's tonight from 5:30-7:30. Jameson will be flowing and a brand ambassador will be there.

2 Sparrows

If you won't be at Whiskyfest (Friday, 7 p.m.) there's a dinner at 2 Sparrows at the same time. The whimsical "Bacon & Bourbon Bonanza" has four courses based on breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert, each paired with Journeyman Distillery cocktails for $60.

The Barrelhouse Flat

Three whiskey flights are available at The Barrelhouse Flat from Thursday through Saturday: Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon ($70), Wild Turkey Bourbon ($20), and Rye (Sazerac 6 Year, Colonel E. H. Taylor Straight, Wild Turkey 101, $30).

Bar on Buena is running whiskey specials all week. Noteworthy events include "FEWbeque" on Wednesday (Few Spirits cocktails, flights and Johnny Van Smokehouse 'InFEWsed' BBQ); Local Option Bierwerker, Kentucky Common Ale aged in Templeton Rye barrels, and Templeton Rye cocktail and shot specials on Thursday.

Bridge Bar has 10 whiskies on special on Tuesday for $3.50 a pour. Old Fashioneds, Manhattans, and their signature "The Smoking Gun" are also only $6 each.

A Maker's Mark 46 dinner on Thursday was moved to the main music room at Schuba's after a sell-out. The four-course dinner will be led by guest speaker and Maker's Mark chairman Bill Samuels Jr.

Fountainhead has two events scheduled for Wednesday. A three-course dinner inside starting at 7 p.m. features six whiskies from Corsair, MB Roland and Redemption for $45. There's also a whiskey tasting and cigar rooftop for $10, with complimentary access for those at the dinner.
