As you might have heard, the 2014 Michelin stars are all revealed now. With six more stars doled out in 2014 than the previous year (25 total), neighborhoods outside of River North, Gold Coast, West Loop, and Lincoln Park continue to build representation. While only three of the starred restaurants are north of Lincoln Park and only two are south of the Loop, all five of those restaurants gained their stars in the last two years.
The Michelin international director summed up the expanding local scene this way: "What we've seen in Chicago more so than New York or San Francisco is that people are really adventurous." Maybe restaurateurs will continue to adventure to different neighborhoods when they open upscale restaurants.
