Chicago Restaurant Week 2017 represents 26 neighborhoods in the city and 304 restaurants. That's excluding the suburbs and O'Hare. When those communities outside of Chicago are added, that increases the number of participating restaurants to 343.

River North, with 85 restaurants, tops the lists with the most participating restaurants. The Loop follows with 38, trailed by West Loop at 31 and Lincoln Park with 24. Most Chicago restaurant fans know about restaurants in these neighborhoods.

Choose Chicago has enjoyed success attracting restaurants in those areas, but, for various reasons, they've had difficulty attracting restaurants in others. A couple of neighborhoods have one representative: Eli's Cheesecake World waves the Dunning flag up north where there's mostly Forest Preserve. Ixcateco Grill does the same in Albany Park. Meanwhile, Pilsen (Dusek's, May Street Cafe) and Hyde Park (A10, The Promontory) have only two representatives each.

Restaurant Week kicks off on Friday, lasting through Feb. 9 and reservations went online in December. Some restaurants include a new brunch option this year for $22. That complements the $33 lunch and $44 dinner options.

Use the opportunity and discounts to visit a neighborhood that doesn't get as much of the spotlight. Here's a handy list to help plan that trip, listed from north to south.
