Host Marcus Samuelsson visits Chicago’s Mexican community in episode three of Eater’s new show

The third episode of No Passport Required, produced by Eater for PBS, airs tonight at 9/8c. In “Chicago,” host Marcus Samuelsson heads to the city to learn more about Mexican culture, history, and food.

Samuelsson eats with — and learns from — Mexican-American chefs and other culinary experts in “Chicago.” He has tacos de cecina and nopales with artist Juan Angel Chávez; visits Diana Dávila at her standout restaurant Mi Tocaya on the eve of its first anniversary to make mole verde and learn more about her cooking traditions; eats pork carnitas with restaurateur Inocencio Carbajal; and tries tamales two ways. Between meals, he boxes with Gabriel Navarro, who mentors and coaches at-risk teens in Chicago’s Little Village neighborhood. And throughout the episode, Samuelsson hears more about the Mexican community in Chicago, the challenges that can come with immigration, the importance of family, and more.
