Stephanie Izard’s Bakery Reboot Serves Cupcakes That Taste Like Pancakes

The “Top Chef” champion goes quirky in West Loop with Sugargoat

Sugargoat, the new West Loop bakery from popular Chicago chef and restaurateur Stephanie Izard (Girl & the Goat, Duck Duck Goat), opened this week inside the Top Chef and Iron Chef champion’s kid-friendly Little Goat Diner on Randolph Restaurant Row.

Izard and pastry chef Faith Taheny feature up a playful collection cakes, cookies, and cupcakes in unusual flavors including caramel corn (caramel buttercream, caramel swirl, caramel corn pieces), avocado toast (sourdough cake, tomatillo caramel, tomato caramel buttercream, avocado buttecream), and Cheez-It (cheddar caramel, strawberry Nesquik buttercream, cheddar caramel buttercream, peanut butter Cheez-It crunch). A spiced latte cupcake has a dash of heat, while a pancake cupcake tastes like breakfast.

The pair are also featuring pies, like a chocolate shake french fry pie inspired by the classic fast-food combo of a Wendy’s Frosty and fries. It’s sticky and complemented by the crunch of shoestring potatoes. Izard is also promising custom cakes and cookies.

The new venture is a reboot of Izard’s Little Goat Bakery, which launched in 2012. As the pandemic continues to weigh on the city and its beleaguered hospitality industry, Izard hopes her brightly colored space and sugary treats bring joy and silliness to locals of all ages. Customers can place orders online.
