Lettuce Entertain You launches a virtual restaurant serving Bon Appetit magazine’s food
After partnering with diet brand Whole30 and GrubHub to open a virtual restaurant last month, Lettuce Entertain You has launched another in Chicago with a national brand — this time Bon Appetit magazine, according to a news release and multiple reports. The delivery-only spot named Bon Appetit, Delivered offers seasonal dishes using recipes from the magazine and its popular YouTube channel; current items include rigatoni with cauliflower bolognese, broccoli Caesar salad, and spicy pork soup.
Two Chicago spots land on World’s 50 Best Bars’ long list
World’s 50 Best, known for its annual rankings of the best restaurants in the world, announced the “long list” (51-100) of its best bars in the world and two Chicago spots make the cut. Tiki stalwart Lost Lake (No. 91) and Alinea Group’s the Aviary (No. 99) are the local representatives, according to a news release. Organizers will reveal the top 50 on October 3.
South Side sandwich icon Taurus Flavors announces reopening date
After a harrowing summer that involved a car crashing into the restaurant, closing temporarily, and briefly reopening before being shut down by the city, South Side sandwich icon Taurus Flavors announced a reopening date: November 18. Ownership made the announcement on Facebook and Twitter on Monday then removed them, and also told the Tribune the location would be the “same.”
Elizabeth chef Iliana Regan’s memoir gets prestigious book award
And finally, here’s another honor for Elizabeth chef/owner Iliana Regan: the National Book Foundation “longlisted” her memoir Burn The Place for the Nonfiction National Book Award. It’s the first time the awards have recognized food writing since Julia Child’s Julia Child & More Company won in 1980, a news release touts.
