Four acclaimed Chicago chefs to raise funds for mental health resources
Sarah Grueneberg of Monteverde, S.K.Y.’s Stephen Gillanders, and Erling Wu-Bower of Eater Chicago’s 2018 Restaurant of the Year Pacific Standard Time will join Shaw’s chef Arnulfo Tellez at Shaw’s Crab House on October 1 to kick off the restaurant’s 31st Annual Oyster Fest with a four-course dinner and fundraiser for mental health services. Each will create an oyster-focused dish to contribute to the menu, and a portion of proceeds will go to Vibrant Emotional Health, an organization that operates mental health resources including the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. Tickets are available online for $79.95 plus tax and include wine pairings.
Chicago’s Fourth Pizza Summit to feature a “pizza daiquiri”
The Chicago Pizza Summit will be back for its fourth year on October 6 with a lineup packed with local pizza institutions in its new home at Theater on the Lake. Participating pie purveyors include stalwarts Pizzeria Uno & Due, Gino’s East, Home Run Inn, Connie’s Pizza, and more. More pizza flavors will be available in drink form, thanks to a “pizza daiquiri” from Swill Inn’s Dustin Drankiewicz and Deep Eddy’s pepperoni-infused vodka, according to a news release. Tickets are currently for sale online.
A popular Toronto chef and YouTuber is coming to the House of Blues
Canadian chef and internet personality Matty Matheson will host a talk at the House of Blues on October 26 to promote his new YouTube cooking show, “Just A Dash.” “This is a cooking show literally about nothing,” Matheson says in the show’s goofy trailer, available below. The heavily tattooed chef first made his name at Toronto hotspot Parts & Labour and makes regular media appearances. Tickets are available on the House of Blues website.
Two James Beard Award Rising Star Winners To Host One-Night Dinner at Galit
And finally, 2019 James Beard Award Rising Star winner Kwame Onwuachi will join 2017 recipient Zach Engel at the latter’s lauded Lincoln Park Middle Eastern restaurant Galit on September 29. Diners can expect offerings from Galit’s regular dinner menu, as well as two dishes from Onwuachi: jerk lamb ribs and short-rib suya, according to the Tribune. Reservations are available online.
