For the first time, Guaranteed Rate Field — home of the Chicago White Sox — will host a beer fest. The inaugural ChiSox Craft Beer Fest is scheduled for Saturday, September 14 with a lineup of 37 area breweries. The team will be in Seattle playing the Mariners that date so it’s not a game day at Sox Park.

The fest features many acclaimed local beer makers including Half Acre, 3 Floyds, Metal Monkey, and 18th Street. The selections aren’t just tied to the Sox’s corporate sponsors, for which there are many (including Modelo, Revolution, and Goose Island). VIP ticket-holders will get a taste of Goose Island’s Bourbon County Brand Stout, a beer that fans line up for around its annual Thanksgiving release. There’s no word which vintage or variant will be poured. The team has held beer festivals on game days, but September’s is the club’s first dedicated event at Sox Park on a non-game day.

The $125 VIP ticket also comes with a chance to meet White Sox Hall of Famer Frank Thomas. But the festival lineup doesn’t include Thomas’ Big Hurt Beer. Besides Bourbon County, VIPs will get other exclusive beer samples, a chance to walk on the warning track, and get a tour of the team’s clubhouse and dugout. The ticket also includes early access and 10 more beer samples compared to the 30 for the standard $45 ticket. Those $45 tickets include 30 2-ounce tastings, a tasting glass, and poster. There’s also a designated driver ticket for $10 that doesn’t come with beer tickets.

The Sox made sure South Side breweries were well represented with beers from Alulu, Horse Thief Hollow, and Marz. They began filling the vendor lineup with breweries also featured at the Goose Island Craft Kave underneath right field, said Sox senior director of marketing Gareth Breunlin. Any changes to the brewery lineup will be posted on the event’s website where tickets are also available.

The team’s still figuring out exactly what food to serve. Reps say the event will offer hot dogs and pizza, and they’re still waiting on word if any of the fancier options from the club level will be available.
