Lincoln Park staple Dawali Mediterranean Kitchen is relocating after eight years in the neighborhood, and owners announced a plan to open a new West Loop space in mid-July on social media. The new restaurant at 319 S. Jefferson Street is developing quickly, according to a Facebook post that includes photos of the building with temporary signs in the windows. Owners have not yet responded to requests for information, but Yelp indicates the restaurant is slated to open on July 15.

First opened in 2011 at 1625 N. Halsted Street, Dawali offers a range of popular Mediterranean dishes, including baba ghannouj, falafel, shawerma, and kufta. The Lincoln Park spot was BYO, and the menu includes strong Arabic coffee with a touch of cardamom. The restaurant’s official website domain expired in late June.
Diners from across the city appreciated the original location’s close proximity to Steppenwolf Theatre, so it remains to be seen how the restaurant will fare in the new space, less than a block away from famous diner Lou Mitchell’s. The S. Jefferson Street space formerly housed a Subway sandwich shop.
Stay tuned for news of the opening in the West Loop.
