New York’s Craveable Hospitality Group plans new restaurant in the GreenRiver space
A high-profile New York-based group plans to open a new restaurant in Chicago — in a high-profile space that was previously home to a Michelin-starred restaurant by titan Danny Meyer’s group. Craveable Hospitality Group, which was formerly the David Burke Group and runs a variety of restaurants around the country, is working towards opening a new spot in the former GreenRiver space on the 18th floor of the Northwestern Memorial Hospital outpatient facility in Streeterville, as the group is hiring for an executive chef and a general manager/director of operations. GreenRiver, a swanky cocktail bar and Michelin-starred restaurant with a rooftop terrace, was open from September 2015 until January 2018. “We are still finalizing all the details and cannot provide further comment at this time,” a Craveable rep says, so stay tuned for more on what could be a major opening.
Longtime Ravenswood favorite Glenn’s Diner is for sale
Glenn’s Diner, the popular, longtime Ravenswood restaurant known for its cereal and seafood, has surfaced for sale on the real estate market. The listing advertises a price of $199,000 for the “established and profitable restaurant concept.” An inquiry to the restaurant wasn’t returned by press time so stay tuned for any news. Namesake Glenn Fahlstrom split from the restaurant in 2012 and now owns and operates Fahlstrom’s Fresh Fish Market in Lakeview. UPDATE: Larry Jones, the owner of Glenn’s Diner, wrote in to say that he’s not closing the restaurant: “We are seeking a well-matched and suitable successor that has the passion, excitement and desire to keep the legacy of Glenn’s Diner alive and thriving.”
DMK Burger Bar nixes franchising efforts for expansion
After announcing in 2017 that DMK Burger Bar would open 400 restaurants in 10 years around the country partly through franchising, the popular Chicago-based burger chain has pulled the plug on franchising, the downstate State Journal Register reports. The paper goes on to report that “additional corporate-owned locations will be limited to the Chicagoland area.” DMK has plenty going on in Chicagoland, including a forthcoming food hall in the South Loop.
New Lakeview New York City bagel spot takes a breather after getting slammed last week
And finally, Chicagoans couldn’t enough bagels flown from New York City to Lakeview over the holiday week. Taste of New York Bagels and Deli, which had its first day in business on July 2, is now closed until a grand opening party on Friday, July 12, writing on social media that “Chicago was more excited for our New York bagels than we expected.” It plans to be open seven days a week starting Friday.
