South Side beer lovers now have a sun-drenched rooftop bar
Beer lovers on the far South Side now have a rooftop bar to call their own. Open Outcry Brewing Co., the very popular Beverly destination, officially unveiled the rooftop yesterday that’s been in the works since at least last summer. The sun-drenched space has full service, deck chairs, couches and more. Take a look at it below.
Illinois Supreme Court deals Chicago food trucks yet another blow
Food trucks in Chicago were dealt yet another blow yesterday. The Illinois Supreme Court upheld two provisions in the city’s law that owners deem unfair and contribute to Chicago’s food truck scene lagging behind other American cities: the ones that bar trucks from parking within 200 feet of restaurants and require they install GPS devices for tracking. The Institute for Justice has challenged these rules since 2012, yet the ruling has remained the same. Read it in full here.
Popular Logan Square guest chef series returns Monday with big names
Popular Logan Square bar Spilt Milk relaunches its summer Monday “family meal” guest chef series on Memorial Day with plenty of big hitters. The lineup kicks off with Cafe Marie Jeanne on May 27 and also includes a preview of Paul Virant’s Gaijin on June 3, Mindy Segal on June 10, Pacific Standard Time on July 22, and much much more. Attendees will get a plate of each chef’s food for $20.
Lincoln Parkers get a new Greek brunch and 70-seat patio tomorrow
And finally, popular Lincoln Park Greek restaurant Avli Taverna, which previously spent many months on the Heatmap, starts serving brunch and opens a 70-seat sidewalk patio tomorrow. The menu includes open faced filo pie filled with wild greens and herbs topped with two poached eggs, baklava crumble oatmeal, visino cherry bellinis, and more. The full menu is below.
