Acclaimed Wicker Park izakaya and Japanese cocktail bar close
Yokocho and Anaba Handroll Bar, the reconcept of longtime Wicker Park vegan favorite Mana Food Bar, are closed. The websites announce that they are relocating but don’t reveal any details, Yelp says Yokocho is “scheduled to reopen on September 1, 2019,” and reps have not responded to inquiries for more information. Yokocho was recently on the Eater Chicago Bar Heatmap and Chicago magazine this week named it one of the best new restaurants of 2019.
Logan Square’s CBD cocktail and goth bread hotspot starts brunch
Young American, one of 2019’s most anticipated restaurants, is launching brunch service tomorrow featuring the “nighttime sisig” with duck egg, squid ink, poblano, and “porky bits,” as well as overnight oats with fresh citrus, kumquat syrup, and lavender. The bar is noted for its CBD-infused cocktails, but none appear on the brunch drink list. It does include the “Taking Root,” made with shochu, blanco tequila, galangal root (an East Asian shrub), and wormwood. Brunch will be served Saturday and Sunday, starting at 11 a.m. The full menu is available below.
Full Modelo beer truck stolen on South Side
A tractor trailer packed with Modelo beers stolen from East 95th Street has been recovered in Calumet City, according to the Chicago Tribune. Miraculously, its contents apparently untouched. The driver reportedly left his keys in the ignition during a morning delivery and police have made no arrests yet, deeming the beer-napping a “crime of opportunity.”
Bars could get in trouble with HBO for screening ‘Game of Thrones’
And finally, don’t expect to be able to watch Game of Thrones at bars in Chicago. Bars could get in trouble for screening the popular show without permission from HBO, the Tribune reports. The season 8 premiere airs on Sunday night.
