FULTON MARKET — Huge government-themed bar and restaurant City Hall at 838 W. Kinzie Street is slated to open June 21, according to a representative. The two-floor operation includes an 8,000 square-foot patio, a 5,000 square-foot bar and restaurant, and a 10,000 square-foot event space, and will feature creative drinks like cocktails served in water coolers. Management plans to offer live music, including DJ nights and performances from local bands on Friday nights.
LITTLE VILLAGE — Speakeasy-style Latin cocktail bar Osito’s Tap seems to be making progress at 2553 S. Ridgeway Avenue, according to photos posted to the bar’s Facebook page. “This custom made bar will be able to seat 11 customers comfortably around it and will be retrofitted with illuminating lights,” the post reads.

OLD TOWN — Cafe and retailer Foxtrot is planning a new location at 1562 N. Wells Street, slated to open in late July or early August, and staff plan to roll out a completely updated cafe menu (including a few old favorites) with items prepped at their commissary and made-to-order in the store. The space formerly housed a branch of Le Pain Quotidien. Additional Foxtrot outposts are located the West Loop, Wicker Park, Lincoln Park, and the Southport corridor. The Old Town location will also have a walk-up window for coffee, breakfast tacos, and more. The current menu is available below.
SOUTH LOOP — An apparent seafood spot called Crab Bucket is coming to S. Michigan Avenue and E. 21st Street in July, according to photos posted to Sloopin.
SOUTH LOOP — The Grail Cafe, a new restaurant at 715 S. Dearborn Street, seems to be making progress, according to this Sloopin post. The cafe’s website is live but doesn’t provide any details about the space, menu, or opening date.
THE LOOP — Chicago-based mini-chain Do-Rite Donuts & Chicken is scheduled to open late this summer in food-and-entertainment project Catalog inside the Willis Tower at 233 S. Wacker Drive, according to a news release. It will be Do-Rite’s sixth location.
WEST LOOP — The former Al’s Beef at 601 W. Adams Street is undergoing a transformation, according to owner Michael Stadnicki. It is slated to reopen as cerveceria and taqueria Taco LuLú in July. A rendering of the new taqueria’s sign is available on Facebook.
WEST TOWN — The owners of burger and boozy milkshake spot Shake-It, slated to open in a former auto shop at 820 N. Damen Avenue, are scheduled to appear at a public meeting with the East Village Association, the Ukrainian Village Neighborhood, and Alderman (2nd Ward) Brian Hopkins on June 27. In 2017, co-owner Dante Deiana told Eater Chicago that the restaurant would open “on the first warm day of next year,” but two years later, there seems to be little progress. SCHAUMBURG — Phat Phat, a new restaurant from the group behind hand-pulled noodle temple Imperial Lamian, is slated to open in July at 17 S. Roselle Road in Schaumburg, according to the Chicago Tribune. The restaurant will specialize in Chinese food with Southeast Asian influences, including flavors from Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia, U.S. Imperial Lamian Group president and CEO Vincent Lawrence told the Tribune.
SKOKIE — Popular French-Asian bakery chain Tous Les Jours is slated to open in late June at Westfield Old Orchard at 4905 Old Orchard Center in Skokie, according to a press release. It will join more than 20 other restaurants at the mall, including Rick Bayless’s Frontera Fresco.

ANDERSONVILLE — Uvae Wine Bar & Kitchen is under construction at 5557 N. Clark Street. Owner Lindsey Perez applied for a liquor license in March, according to a public notice on the door, though the name was initially listed as Uva Kitchen and Wine Bar. Perez is hiring for all positions, according to the restaurant’s website, and plans to serve new American cuisine, offer wine dinners, and a wine club. The space was previously occupied by the Adriatic Cafe Restaurant, which closed in 2016.
THE LOOP — A new Brown Bag Seafood Co. location is slated to open inside Catalog, the five-floor food-and-entertainment project inside the Willis Tower at 233 S. Wacker Drive, according to a news release. It will be the sixth location for the local fast casual seafood mini-chain. Construction crews are finishing off the 240-window glass skylight, a key feature in the Willis Tower’s $500-million renovation project. New renderings of the space are now available online.
THE LOOP — Virtual gaming bar and restaurant Topgolf Swing Suite is slated to open in July on the ground floor of the Chicago Athletic Association Hotel, according to a news release. Chicago restaurant group Land and Sea Dept., which operates all the hotel’s second-floor food and beverage spots, will provide food and beverage service. The space will include two simulator bays, Game Room Greens and Cherry Circle Links.
LOGAN SQUARE — Tap room and brewery incubator Pilot Project could open soon at 2140 N. Milwaukee Avenue, according to its website, and owners are hiring for a range of positions. Social media posts indicate that construction is underway and a rendering is available online.
LOGAN SQUARE — Victory Grill, the new venture from the owner of popular diners Hollywood and White Palace grills, is under construction at 2246 N. Milwaukee Avenue. The stand-alone building looks like a railcar and photos are available via a Facebook post. The same post announced a planned opening this summer. The space formerly housed adored loncheria Cafe Marianao’s, which owner Manuel Basilio “Bia” Santiago shuttered in 2016.
MAGNIFICENT MILE — Another Topgolf location is scheduled to open this fall at the 900 N. Michigan Avenue Shops, another news release announces. Hogsalt Hospitality, the group behind popular Chicago burger mini-chain Au Cheval and many other acclaimed restaurants will provide food and beverage service drawn from Aster Hall’s offerings. The space will include three simulator bays and virtual sports including the Topgolf target game, dodgeball, and Hockey Shots.
NEAR SOUTH SIDE — Business partners Jared Rouben and Jeremy Cohn of Moody Tongue Brewing Company have applied for a liquor license at 2513-17 S. Wabash Avenue, the new address for their popular craft brewery that will also house a tasting-menu restaurant. The space, formerly Baderbrau, will include the casual 16-tap lounge the Bar at Moody Tongue and fine-dining restaurant the Dining Room at Moody Tongue. It’s slated to open sometime this summer.
RAVENSWOOD — New signs are up at Redline VR, a virtual reality bar slated for a long-awaited June opening 4700 N. Ravenswood Avenue. Permit problems held up the project initially, but owners seem to be making progress: they recently launched Chicago’s first “augmented reality billboard” to advertise the bar and social media posts indicate that construction is well underway.
WEST TOWN — Wine bar and seafood restaurant Porto is now slated for a summer opening, according to the venue’s website, at 1600 W. Chicago Avenue. It’s from Beatnik’s Bonhomme Hospitality Group, which has also applied for a liquor license. The spot was originally scheduled to open this spring. News of the project was first reported in November 2018.
EVANSTON — Sketchbook Brewing Co. is expanding into the space next door to its current location at 825 Chicago Avenue in Evanston, according to a news release. The adjacent space at 821 Chicago Avenue will roughly triple the venue’s current square footage, and will include rolling garage-door windows and increased event and food pop up space. Owners are planning a fall opening.

HYDE PARK — Trader Joe’s plans to open the grocery chain’s first location on the South Side of Chicago this fall, according to many many news reports. The chain is replacing part of a shuttered Treasure Island Foods in the Hyde Park Shopping Center at 1526 E. 55th Street.
LAKEVIEW — The team behind DryHop has big dreams, and the group’s rapid expansion continues with Roebuck, a planned Neapolitan-style pizza spot just beside the original DryHop Brewers at 3159 N. Broadway Street. Owners recently announced a Mexico City-style brewpub slated to open next year on the Mag Mile. Roebuck’s opening is scheduled for late summer or early fall, the Chicago Tribune reported.
LAKEVIEW — New York-style bagel purveyor and to-go deli Taste of New York Bagels & Deli is slated to open this spring at 3268 N. Clark Street, in the vicinity of Wrigley Field, according to the Chicago Tribune.
LINCOLN PARK— The former Big Bop+Ramen spot has a new tenant. There are signs for Urban Nomads Barbecue & Grill House at 2438 N. Clark Street.
THE LOOP/RIVER NORTH — New Zealand’s Mojo Coffee has two new Chicago locations planned for summer 2019, located at 33 N. LaSalle Street and 330 N. Wabash Avenue, according to a news release. The company already operates two Chicago locations, as well as 40 cafes across New Zealand and China. Customers can expect coffee, espresso drinks, and hearty fare including 12-hour braised beef cheeks.
MAGNIFICENT MILE — Management at the Mozzarella Store Pizza & Caffe at 822 N. Michigan Avenue is hiring for all positions, according to an official Facebook post. Slated for a late May opening, the two-level restaurant seats 110 inside and additional 42 on the outside patio. Diners can expect pizzas from Italian import Giuseppe Tremigliozzi, small plates, beer, and wine.
RAVENSWOOD — Virtual reality bar Redline VR is finally slated for a June opening at 4700 N. Ravenswood Avenue, according to ownership’s new “augmented reality billboard” at Lawrence and Ravenswood avenues. Owners originally planned to start serving in mid-December, but permitting issues forced the project to stall. Construction is well underway, according to a Facebook post, and customers can expect a full bar as well as “VR cocktails.”
ROGERS PARK — Owners of Howard Street Brewing are making progress on the brewery and cozy taproom that’s slated to open this month. Renderings of the 37-seat bar at 1617 W. Howard Street are available on Facebook, and would-be customers can peruse the beer list online. Brew offerings include “Tango,” a tart mango kettle sour, and a session “Factory Pale Ale,” made with with Simcoe, Cascade, Centennial, and Amarillo hops.
WEST LOOP — A new Italian restaurant, Gioia Ristorante + Pastificio, is scheduled to open this year at 1133 W. Randolph Street, according to the restaurant’s otherwise empty website. Little information is available about the menu or people involved, except that ownership applied for a liquor license, so stay tuned for updates.
WEST LOOP— There’s no address yet, but Molly’s Cupcakes posted an Instagram photo announcing it was opening a West Loop location. The bakery has locations in Lincoln Park and Streeterville.
WEST ROGERS PARK — Alderman (49th Ward) Joe Moore announced in early May that he’s supporting a proposed drive-thru restaurant called Wingman at 2321 W. Howard Street. The spot was once a Burger King, but the “eyesore” of a building has sat vacant for more than 12 years. The restaurant, owned by Min Kim of Atlanta-based chain American Deli, will serve quick to-go items such as chicken wings, burgers, Philly steaks and fried rice.
WICKER PARK— There are signs for another outpost of Gorilla Sushi at the former Wicker Park space that previously housed a Sushi Burrito at 1238 N. Milwaukee Avenue.
OAKBROOK — Bill Kim, chef and owner of the now-shuttered BellyQ and Urbanbelly, is planning to open the Table at Crate inside the Oakbrook Center Crate & Barrel store in July. The collaborative project at 35 Oakbrook Center was first announced in 2018 and will be the retailer’s first full-service restaurant. Kim was also nominated for a James Beard Award this year for his cookbook “Korean BBQ.” Chicago Magazine has the story.

LOGAN SQUARE — A vacant storefront at 1965 N. Milwaukee Avenue is going to become Chicago Gaming Cafe according to a recent liquor license application. Adored old-school ice cream parlor Margie’s Candies shares the building with what appears to be this new gaming spot. A building permit for a coffee shop in the space was reported early this year by Block Club Chicago.
THE LOOP — Fast-casual seafood mini-chain Brown Bag Seafood Company is opening a new location, according to a building permit, inside the Willis Tower at 233 S. Wacker Drive, its sixth in Chicago. Owner Donna Lee is bringing her healthy lunchtime fare to the neighborhood’s tourists and the office crowd, serving fish, shrimp, and chicken for the landlubbers.
FULTON MARKET — A new restaurant called Dirty Root is slated to open this summer at 939 W. Randolph Street in a space that formerly housed a branch of breakfast and lunch mini-chain Eastman Egg Company. Instagram photos show dishes with salmon, biscuits, and plenty of vegetables. A reporter has reached out to management and is awaiting a response.
NEAR SOUTH SIDE — Williams Inn Pizzeria is slated to reopen at 2210 S. Michigan Avenue, according to a liquor license. Owners closed the original location at 1710 E. 87th Street in October 2018.
PILSEN — Bar and music venue the Penny Whistle is coming soon to 1854 S. Blue Island Avenue, a building that formerly housed Tito’s Hacienda bar and restaurant. The space, designed by Heisler Hospitality’s acclaimed Kevin Heisner, will include a 1940s-era vintage bar, pool table, and DJ equipment. Management did not respond to a request for comment, but Block Club Chicago has the story.
PILSEN — Veeno, a new wine bar that will also offer desserts, is coming to 1904 S. Laflin Street. Management also plans to start a wine club with special deals and events for members, according to the bar’s Facebook page.
ROGERS PARK — The people behind longtime local pizza chain Salerno’s Pizza have applied for a liquor license for what sounds like a pizza brewpub in partnership with suburban brewery Whiskey Hill Brewing under the “doing business” name Salerno’s Pizza/Whiskey Hill Brewing & Pizza Bar at 1629-1631 W. Howard Street. Management did not respond to a request for comment.
STREETERVILLE — Neighborhood favorite Robert’s Pizza Company is finally going to be back in business, serving up thin-crust pizzas starting May 10 at 465 N. McClurg Court, according to the Chicago Tribune. Owner Robert Garvey will give away slices (one per visitor) on opening day from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
WEST TOWN — Southern-style fried chicken spot Crazy Bird Chicken is nearing an opening at 1160 W. Grand Avenue, management wrote in a Facebook post this week. The original location in Lawndale shuttered in June 2017, and an opening date in the new space is pending final approval.
SCHAUMBURG — Steakhouse chain Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille plans to open a second Chicago-area location next summer at 1780 East Golf Road in Schaumburg. The 12,000-square-foot restaurant will seat 350 diners, house four private dining rooms, and a large patio. Menu items will include seven-finger-high pork chop, chateaubriand carvings, and flaming desserts.

BUCKTOWN/ROSCOE VILLAGE — Owners of Chicago roaster Hexe Coffee Co. are opening their first coffee bar this spring at 2000 W. Diversey Parkway in coordination with an expansion initiative at Chicago Public Housing’s Lathrop Homes. Hexe is the first retailer to join the project and will serve sandwiches and small bites, as well as beer and wine on tap.
THE LOOP — Owners of DMK Restaurants are working on an unnamed restaurant with Brian Huston, formerly of the Publican and his now-closed Evanston restaurant Boltwood. An opening is slated for winter in the Railway Exchange Building at 224 S. Michigan Avenue, according to the Chicago Tribune. The Chicago Architecture Foundation formerly occupied the space.
PORTAGE PARK — Foundation Tavern & Grille, a neighborhood beer bar with food and live music, is expected to open this spring at 5007 W. Irving Park Road. A family-run business since 1984 formerly known as Franks and Anne’s and the Nite Cap, the bar will offer 14 draft options.
RIVER NORTH — Local chain Goddess and the Baker’s management announced plans for a summer opening at 44 E. Grand Avenue, where construction will begin May 1. The space formerly housed Baffo, Eataly Chicago’s fine-dining restaurant that closed in 2016.
SOUTH LOOP — Sumi Japanese is expected to open at 1303 S. Michigan Avenue, according to Sloopin. The spot was previously occupied by Kome Japanese Eatery, closed last year, and Panozzo’s Italian Market.
WICKER PARK — Handmade pasta restaurant Tortello is slated for a summer opening at 1746 W. Division Street. Venetian owner Dario Monni is working to keep his family’s pasta-making traditions alive, he told Block Club Chicago, and is even flying a 65-year-old sfoglina (pasta maker) from Puglia, Italy, to train his staff.
WRIGLEYVILLE — Management at Maddon’s Post, the new restaurant from Chicago culinary hero Tony Mantuano and Cubs’ manager Joe Maddon, is hiring cooks, servers, bartenders, dishwashers, and more in anticipation of a spring opening. Applicants can attend a Maddon’s Post job fair from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 18 at the restaurant, 1119 W. Waveland Avenue.
EVANSTON — Owners of popular beachfront bars the Dock at Montrose Beach and Caffe Oliva submitted a building permit application in early April for Double Clutch Brewery, a project first reported in February 2018. Double Clutch, 2121 Ashland Avenue, will have a full bar and wine, a 15-barrel system in the rear, and food including burgers, wings, and perogies, according to the Chicago Tribune. Diners will be able to see the fermentation and serving tanks. Management plans to open the two-story structure with a banquet room that can fit hundreds in the next year.
GLENVIEW — Course Italian, a new venture from Mattone Restaurant and Bar owner Franco Francese, is scheduled to open this spring inside the Glenview Park Golf Club at 800 Shermer Road. The restaurant will serve rustic Italian dishes to golfers and the general public at lunch and dinner and will include a full bar, according to a news release.
GLENVIEW — Mercado Cocina, a new restaurant from Mexican-born chef Yanni Sanchez (formerly of Bar Mas, Bar Takito, and Sabor Saveur) is scheduled for a soft open on Thursday at 2300 Lehigh Avenue in Glenview, the Chicago Tribune reported. Customers can expect a wide breadth of regional Mexican cuisine.
SCHILLER PARK — Sports bar Shoeless Joe’s Ale House & Grille has relocated to 4926 N. River Road in Schiller Park after closing its Rosemont location in late March. The new space is just three miles from the original. Management is currently conducting interviews for all positions from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday through Friday and an opening date is pending, according to a Facebook post. Shoeless Joe’s also operates another location in Addison, Illinois.

HUMBOLDT PARK — “Coming soon” signs are up for what’s apparently a new taco bar named Barbaro Taqueria y Cantina at 2525 W. North Avenue. The space was previously occupied by West Town Pizza Shop, a popular neighborhood spot that closed in 2017.
OLD IRVING PARK/ELMWOOD PARK — Sandwich shop chain Pork & Mindy’s, owned by TV host and “sandwich king” Jeff Mauro, is scheduled to open a new stand-alone restaurant in his hometown of Elmwood Park this summer at 7528 W. North Avenue. The long-delayed Old Irving Park opening at 4359 W. Irving Park Road is also slated for later this year. This comes on the heels of a collaboration with Mariano’s to open 28 locations inside the grocery store chain, according to a news release.
JACKSON PARK — Reggie’s on the Beach from the owner of South Loop favorite Reggie’s has applied for a liquor license at the 63rd Street Beach, 6245 S. Lake Shore Drive. The multi-prong food, drink and entertainment project launched in 2017 in partnership with developer Edric Calahan, and includes a 60-foot deck, a stage for performances, and WaveRunner and paddle board rentals. It was originally slated to open before the season ended in 2018 — or the beginning of this summer at the latest — and food options will include hot dogs, brats, wings, and salads, according to previous reporting by the Hyde Park Herald.
JEFFERSON PARK — Lake Effect Brewing is expanding into a historic Chicago firehouse, and now the developer is working with neighborhood residents and officials to preserve the 113-year-old building at 4835 N. Lipps Avenue. The brewery, best known for popular beers including Falcon Dive IPA and Espresso Gone Stout, currently resides at 4727 W. Montrose Avenue. Block Club Chicago has details on how the project is progressing.
LAKEVIEW — Casual sushi restaurant Nori + Wasabi is scheduled to open later this year at 3109 N. Halsted Street. The space is 1,200-square-feet, according to RE Journals, and formerly housed Vegetarian Express and Mexican restaurant Juliantla.
LINCOLN PARK — Breakfast chain Yolk is opening its ninth Chicago location at 1504 N. Fremont Street on April 22 with an inaugural “egg cracking” ceremony and free 12-ounce coffees all week long. Management plans a modern update on decor, coffee, and espresso drinks, according to a news release. Customers can expect to indulge in traditional Yolk favorites, including red velvet French toast and breakfast mac & cheese.
RIVER NORTH — Lettuce Entertain You has applied for a liquor license under the “doing business name” 321 LLC as a part of their massive two-restaurant project, RPM On The Water and another as-yet unnamed spot at 317-321 N. Clark Street. The $50 million endeavor includes a 100-seat outdoor patio and a 300-person private event space. LEYE has scheduled a staggered opening beginning this spring.
ROSCOE VILLAGE — A new doughnut shop is coming to Roscoe Village, as owners of Dip and Sip Donuts are getting ready to announce their opening at 2256 W. Roscoe Street, according to their website. The menu isn’t public yet, but the shop’s Facebook page has a few pictures of fresh doughnuts with chocolate frosting and festive sprinkles. Excited would-be customers can test out the wares at the Chicago Donut Fest on April 6.
WEST LOOP — Owners of Eat Me Milk Me LLC have applied for a liquor license at 1111 W. Randolph Street. The location formerly housed charcuterie and sandwich shop West Loop Salumi, which shuttered in 2018. The tea and coffee house will serve bubble tea and bento boxes, according to a Facebook post on True West Loop.
SCHAUMBURG — Chicago barbecue mini-chain Blackwood BBQ is opening its fourth location and first outside the city, this time in an outlot at Woodfield Mall at 1715 E. Golf Road. Owners plan to start serving in the suburbs this summer, according to the Daily Herald. The chain’s website indicates another two locations are in the works, one at the Merchandise Mart and another at Franklin & Adams in the Loop.

AVONDALE — A bowling alley, bar, and social club co-owned by a former Longman & Eagle manager is slated to open this spring. Avondale Bowl is located at 3118 N. Milwaukee Avenue, the former home of the 1950’s-era Northwest Bowl. Block Club has the details.
FULTON MARKET — Philadelphia-based gastropub chain City Tap Kitchen & Craft is heading to Fulton Market, as the company applied for a liquor license at 850 W. Fulton Market.
JEFFERSON PARK — Alderman (45th Ward) John Arena announced on Facebook that Colombian restaurant El Asadero Colombiano is slated to open in the next few months. It will occupy the former BeefBelly space at 4800 N. Central Avenue.
LINCOLN PARK — The trio of owners (and brothers) behind Victor Bar are planning to open their new cocktail bar, Love Street, at 1325 W. Wrightwood Avenue in late April or early May. They are currently mid-build out, according to co-owner Johnny Fehr.
LOGAN SQUARE — Former pop-up seafood restaurant Good Fortune is finally slated to open its permanent location this month at 2528 N. California Avenue. The building formerly housed the General. “[It] will come down to final inspections but we are there! It will be well worth the wait,” partner Andrew Miller wrote in an email.
LOGAN SQUARE — “High roller” restaurant the Whale by Vig owner Ryan Marks appears to be making progress at 2427 N. Milwaukee Avenue. Construction photos and some menu items are available online, and ownership applied for its liquor license.
THE LOOP — New York and London-based food hall operator Urbanspace is opening a new location on the ground floor at 15 W. Washington Street this fall. A second location is scheduled to open in the Willis Tower in 2020.
NAVY PIER — Navy Pier is welcoming another eatery into the fold. FRÍO Gelato will offer Argentine gelato and is scheduled to open this spring at the lakeside tourist destination.
NORTH CENTER — Menya Goku, 2207 W. Montrose Avenue, will be the latest slurp spot from the owners of Ramen Wasabi and Ramen Takaya. Ownership changed the restaurant’s name from Artisanal Noodle by Ramen Wasabi since the project was first announced. A Facebook post indicates it will open soon.
RIVER NORTH — The Smith, a New York restaurant that successfully expanded to Washington D.C., should open its first Chicago location at 400 N. Clark Street this May, according to a spokesperson.
SOUTH LOOP — Italian eatery Giglio’s is coming to 825 S. State Street, according to Sloopin. The spot was last occupied by the short-lived Pazzo’s.
SOUTH SHORE — Locally owned Inner City Entertainment is developing a restaurant, bar, and movie theater mashup at Cinegrill, located inside the former Urban Partnership Bank Building at 7054 S. Jeffrey Boulevard. Construction is expected to begin this year and an opening is planned for June 2020, according to the Chicago Citizen.
STREETERVILLE — French bakery Maison Marcel is planning to open a second location at 545 N. McClurg Court, at the base of the Moment apartment tower, in April.
WEST LOOP/WICKER PARK — Popular Canadian chain Kinton Ramen applied for its liquor licenses in order to open its two Chicago locations, at 900 W. Fulton Market and 1426 N. Milwaukee Avenue.
WEST LOOP — The famously photogenic Wndr Museum, located at 1130 W Monroe Street, has applied for a liquor license and may add a bar. Spokespeople have yet to comment.
WEST TOWN — Owners of popular restaurant Beatnik are planning to debut Porto, their wine bar and seafood restaurant, at 1600 W. Chicago Avenue this spring, Crain’s Chicago reports.
ST. CHARLES — The first suburban Illinois Wahlburgers location will break ground Friday at Route 38 and Randall Road. Actor, co-owner, and St. Charles resident Donnie Wahlburg will reportedly be in attendance. The Daily Chronicle has the details.
