After a decade of boozy brunches and more in the heart of Wicker Park, the mimosas stopped flowing at Lokal. Management made the closing announcement on social media on Monday, simply writing that “Lokal Wicker Park is now closed. Thank you for amazing 10 years!” The newer Lincoln Park location at 2500 N. Ashland Avenue remains open.

The restaurant and lounge at 1904 W. North Avenue was a brunch destination before the neighborhood had many boozy daytime options. Serving “Euro-inspired comfort food,” it also was popular for DJ parties and late nights of drinks, as well as dinner services. It had been open since 2009.

Owner Art Wnorowski says that his lease expired and that “we couldn’t come to favorable terms with the landlord.” He’s leaving the door open to re-open at a larger space nearby if he finds one.

Until then, patrons can down Benedicts, bottomless mimosas, and more at the Lincoln Park spot that opened in summer 2015. Wnorowski also owns Earl’s Drive Thru BBQ in Jefferson Park.
