64-year-old South Side pizzeria destroyed in fire

Capri’s Pizza of South Chicago, a Southeast Side favorite that’s been open since 1955 at 8820 S. Commercial Avenue, is closed indefinitely after a fire engulfed “several buildings” on Sunday afternoon. Ownership yesterday wrote on social media that they are “heartbroken and devastated” and asked customers to “please pray for the entire block.” They asked friends and neighbors to visit their two Indiana locations in Schererville and Crown Point “until we can get back on our feet.” No one was reportedly injured in the fire.

Instagram-famous BomboBar nixes Seven Lions space on Michigan Avenue

Though the owners applied for a liquor license in November, BomboBar won’t replace Seven Lions on Michigan Avenue in the Loop, according to a rep for DineAmic Group. The rep wouldn’t say why the company backed away from its plans. DineAmic had applied for a license but was reluctant to officially announce a project that would have brought some combination of BomboBar and Bar Siena to Alpana Singh’s former space that shuttered around the new year. The restaurant is a popular spot for Instagrammers in the West Loop thanks to photogenic desserts.

Fans of the 1998 cult-favorite film The Big Lebowski have more time to visit the Ukrainian Village pop-up bar in its honor. Owners of the Rookery, the restaurant and bar at 2109 W. Chicago Avenue that houses the pop-up on the second floor, have extended its run until March 16. The pop-up, which features themed drinks including the “Nobody F*cks With The Jesus,” was slated to end in mid-February.

At publication time it has amassed $24,464 in funding after only asking for $18,000. Regan plans to convert a portion of her Kitsune space into the bakery for breakfast and lunch hours nearly three years after Bunny’s original location closed in East Lakeview.
