Wicker Park’s the Anthem is closing this weekend to reconcept
One of the first sports bars on the Division Street strip that’s now saturated with them will close this weekend in order to change its concept. The Anthem, which opened more than seven years ago at 1725 W. Division Street, will close this Sunday, January 27 before “taking some time to re-concept and bring you something new in the near future,” its website and social media pages announced. There’s no word yet on what the new concept is or when it could open, so stay tuned. The strip now houses many sports bars including Fatpour, the Fifty/50, and the Boundary.
Starbucks will soon deliver in Chicago
Starbucks will start delivering via Uber Eats in Chicago and five other major markets “in the coming weeks,” according to USA Today. The news comes after the coffeeshop giant tested delivery in Miami last fall.
Gold Coast mainstay Le Colonial closes to prep for move
As it prepares to move nearby, longtime swanky Gold Coast French-Vietnamese restaurant Le Colonial closed its current 23-year-old location over the weekend after announcing at the turn of the new year it would stay open through January. The new location at 57 E. Oak Street is slated to open this winter.
McDonald’s Headquarters rolls out new international menu with British cheese bites
McDonald’s global restaurant at its West Loop headquarters has launched a new menu with interesting items from abroad. Dishes include the Macha McFlurry from Japan, fried cheese bites from the UK, the goat cheese burger from Spain, and the egg BLT McMuffin from Canada.
Acclaimed chefs to compete in Kendall College’s fried chicken and champagne fest
And finally, 10 of Chicago’s most acclaimed chefs will gather and compete at the annual fried chicken and champagne fest at Kendall College on February 2. Competitors include Acadia’s Ryan McCaskey, Honey Butter Fried Chicken’s Christine Cikowski and Joshua Kulp, Etta’s Danny Grant, Parachute’s Beverly Kim, and more. Tickets cost $90 (or $195 for VIP) and are available here.
