Parachute’s Beverly Kim and Johnny Clark Are Working on Opening a New Restaurant

Avondale is getting one of the highest-anticipated new restaurants in some time as the team behind Parachute — one of the most-acclaimed dining experiences in America — is working on a new restaurant down the street from their Michelin-starred original. Beverly Kim and Johnny Clark have filed building permits and applied for a liquor license for a yet-to-be-named new restaurant with an outdoor patio at 3472 N. Elston Avenue in Avondale, less than a block south of Parachute. Kim confirmed that they’re working on a new project there but said via text that they’re not ready to announce further details yet, so the Chicago restaurant scene will have to wait to hear more about what promises to be one of the highest-anticipated new restaurants in some time.

Kim and Clark, after working in and running an array of top Chicago kitchens and Kim’s appearance on “Top Chef,” opened their chef-driven mom-and-pop Korean-American smash hit in May 2014. Universal acclaim and an avalanche of accolades followed nearly immediately, including Eater Chicago’s Restaurant of the Year, its addition to the Eater Chicago 38, Jean Banchet Awards for Best New Restaurant and Rising Chef of the Year, James Beard Foundation Award finalist nods for Best New Restaurant in America and Best Chef: Great Lakes, a Bon Appetit Best New Restaurant accolade, gaining one Michelin-star status in 2015, and becoming one of Eater National’s Best Restaurants in America in 2016.
