Four New Brunches and a Lunch To Try in Chicago

Highlights include schnitzel and grits, bottomless mimosas, and dim sum

GOLD COAST— Walton Street Kitchen + Bar, the new restaurant from the owners of Gemini in Lincoln Park, have launched lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays. Check out the menu here. There’s a serious selection of salads, sandwiches, and more.

LINCOLN PARK— Casati’s Pizza Vino, the new Italian restaurant on the corner of Clark and Fullerton, has launched brunch from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekends. It has bottomless mimosas.

LOGAN SQUARE— Bixi Beer, Chicago’s first Asian brewpub with a retractable second-floor roof, has launched brunch. It goes from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sundays. Chef/owner Bo Fowler’s menu includes dim sum like baos and a lamb wonton with cumin and mint Japanese pancakes, and even beignets. Larger plates include a spicy fried chicken sandwich on a Japanese-style milk bun. There’s also a bottomless mimosas and Bixi’s Bloody Mary called “Bad & Bixi.” Other dishes, like Cantonese har gow (crystal dumplings), could be added in the future. Read the menu below.

RIVER NORTH— Parlay at Joy District is launching brunch on Sunday, September 30. That’s the first-floor sports bar and dining space inside the River North clubstaurant. It’s a buffet for $30 and will go from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sundays. Mimosa packages are available for an additional $20 (or $50 total with food). Lobster rolls, chicken and waffles, and a cereal bar are options. Reservations can be had here, and management is hoping to grab NFL fans for football game watches.

WEST TOWN— Funkenhausen, the new German restaurant with a southern twist, will launch brunch service on Saturday. Service goes from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Chef Mark Steuer made Carriage House in Wicker Park a brunch destination and he hopes to do the same at his new restaurant. The menu, available in full below, includes steak and eggs for two, schnitz and grits, and smoked trout.
