New Wrigleyville Pizzeria Introduces Detroit-Style Squares to Cubs Fans Tonight

Detroiters living in Lakeview will feel even more at home thanks to Union Full Board, the new pizzeria opening tonight inside the Wheelhouse Hotel, just south of Wrigley Field on Clark Street. The hotel’s speakeasy style cocktail lounge, Tinkers to Evers — named after legendary Cubs players from the early 1900s — will soon open.

Union, with locations in suburban Evanston and inside Revival Food Hall in the Loop, takes inspiration from Buddy’s Pizza, the Detroit-based pizza chain that specializes in squared pan pizza with caramelized crust that will remind Chicago pizza fans of Pequod’s Pizza. The crisp pepperoni that sits on top of the melted Wisconsin brick cheese is a unique experience that makes Michiganders grow nostalgic. Buddy’s also has a beef with New York pizza lovers.

But the new restaurant isn’t just about squares. Ownership unleashes a full menu including organic salmon with arugula and farro, a full line of sandwiches, salads, and entrees. There are also daily specials such as on Sunday when they’ll serve lasagna with veal and pancetta ragu.

Wrigleyville continues to transform as this spring, Hotel Zachary opened across from the home of the Cubs with seven restaurants and a view overlooking Wrigley Field’s marquee. The views aren’t as iconic from Union, as customers will see fans walking down Clark Street on the hotel’s ground floor. However, there’s also a rooftop space that customers can rent out for private events.
