Chicago’s first cider bar, the Northman, will this weekend open its location along the Chicago Riverwalk. Ownership has grander plans for its space, officially called Northman Beer & Cider Garden, along the river between Stetson and Columbus. Friday’s opening is only phase one and comes with a limited menu. They’ll offer more items in spring 2019 when they unveil the entire space.

They’ll have a beer garden with space for more than 500 seats. It’s dog friendly, and they’ll have around 15 taps for draft cider, beer, wine, and cocktails. They’ll have another 25 more in bottles and cans. The space also has a full bar with two draft cocktails. “Supersonic” is a spin on a gin and tonic with ginseng tincture. There’s also the “Winter Banana” made with Hennessy and banana-infused rum.

Food includes a donor kabob sausage, an encased take of the Northman’s donor kebobs served in Lincoln Square. The menu also includes a rotating selection of sausages, pretzels and other snacks. The Lincoln Square location opened in 2016, and helped educate Chicagoans to the different types of cider. The same ownership group runs the Fountainhead and Bar on Buena.

The space along the river features picnic tables and there’s also Cornhole. Check out the menu below. Northman Beer & Cider Garden opens on Friday.
