Wrigleyville’s Scoring Some Highly Acclaimed Fried Chicken

The Roost Carolina Kitchen is heading to Clark Street

Ashok Selvam is the editor of Eater Chicago and a native Chicagoan armed with more than two decades of award-winning journalism. Now covering the world of restaurants and food, his nut graphs are super nutty.

If the Cubs and pitcher Jon Lester advance deep into the postseason this fall, they can celebrate nearby with some fried chicken and beer as The Roost Carolina Kitchen is opening a Wrigleyville location. Ownership is in the early stages, but they’ve taken over the former Bar Celona space at 3474 N. Clark Street. This would be the Roost’s fourth location, joining Lakeview, River West, and South Loop.

No matter how new construction like Hotel Zachary reshapes the neighborhood around Wrigley Field, there’s still plenty of bars which create hungry late-night zombies milling about the area after last call. Roost GM Ashley Gleason emailed that the new location will stay open late to serve that crowd. They’ve applied for a liquor license so they’ll also serve beer. The food will be classic Roost fare: Nashville hot fried chicken, biscuits, and sandwiches. The Roost started as a food truck and now they’re about to open a fourth location in four years.

They’re shooting for a late fall opening, so regardless of the Cubs’ playoffs performance, they may not be ready for baseball. Well, there’s always next year.
