CORRECTION: Despite sending a news release announcing the opening date, Halal Guys will not be opening on Saturday. The restaurant co-owner said the restaurant’s opening will be delayed. They’re now a “couple weeks” from opening. Original story follows.

Another restaurant with broad appeal outside of Chicago is opening a location in Wicker Park. Only days after Bonci opened its Wicker Park pizzeria, the Halal Guys will open a half mile away at 1415 N. Milwaukee Avenue inside the former FireFin Poke Shop. The New York-based chain started as a food cart drawing long lines of customers waiting for gyros topped with that intensely spicy red sauce. Opening day in Wicker Park is Saturday. That gives Halal Guys three Chicago locations, and there’s also one in suburban Skokie.

The Wicker Park spot will satiate night owls and boozers. They’ll stay open until 4 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, according to a news release. While the restaurant will be serving food on Thursday for VIPs, Saturday’s opening will celebrate the new restaurant in typical Halal Guys fashion. The first 100 customers will get T-Shirts, and guests will take turns spinning a wheel for chances to win free food. Halal Guys opens at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

Halal Guys had a presence earlier this month at the I Heart Halal Festival at Navy Pier. They also have locations in Gold Coast and the Loop.
