The walk-up window may sate fans of the doomed Taco Bell

Big Star workers lingered at the new Wrigleyville location late on Friday night for training, and now the owners of the uber-popular taco bar have announced an opening date for their new two-floor restaurant across the street from Wrigley Field. One Off Hospitality will open the Big Star inside the Hotel Zachary on April 2. That’s around the same time as the other restaurants inside the new hotel, which are bracing for the Cubs’ home opener on April 9 versus Pittsburgh.

While the Wicker Park location draws lengthy lines during summer and spring thanks to its roomy patio, the Wrigleyville location is much bigger. This location, 3640 N. Clark Street, has room for 383 people throughout its two floors. And like Wicker Park, it will have a walk-up window. That may be some consolation for fans of the doomed Taco Bell around the corner on Addison. Some fans teared up after news that the fast-food restaurant would close. It still hasn’t. While Big Star lacks nacho-flavored fries that taste like chemicals, perhaps it can somehow fill the void.

Stay tuned for more taco news before the opening. The Tribune first reported the opening date.
