The owners of Dante’s Pizzeria, the New York-style pie specialists, plan on opening a third location inside their former Ravenswood sandwich shop, Vidalia — if only for a limited time. Dante’s already has shops in Logan Square and Avondale and its owners plan to open in Ravenswood at the beginning of April, according to pizzeria partner Tim Murphy. This pop-up shop’s initial run would last from April to the end of June, though Dante’s could stick around if business is good.
The new pizzeria, 1964 W. Lawrence Avenue, would have the same menu as the other two Dante’s shops with perhaps a few newcomers such as strombolis.
“They would change daily. You’d have to come in and see what we have or check our Twitter and Instagram,” Murphy said. “I have the recipes worked out, I’m just not positive we’re going to do it.”

Though the new Dante’s won’t serve booze, patrons will be able to bring in their own bottles, Murphy added. The restaurant would serve pies in the dining room and also deliver them in an area bordered by Bryn Mawr to the North; Kimball to the West; Broadway to the East; and Montrose to the South.
If the pizzeria does relocate, it’s possible it could move to another Ravenswood storefront. Vidalia closed in July.
“We saw this as a good opportunity to do a pop-up in a neighborhood in which we’re already interested in moving into, and to gauge the interest,” said Murphy, who also plays bass and sings in Canadian Rifle, a local punk band.
