Michelle Obama showed her loyalty to Chicago by leaving no doubt whether she prefers deep-dish pizza over New York’s thin crusts. The former First Lady resoundingly endorsed deep dish in remarks made earlier this week during a New York speech. The Chicago native even specified a restaurant when she told the crowd at Klick Health’s MUSE event that Gino’s East reins supreme over New York’s pies.
“Chicago deep dish, are you kidding me? Gino’s East, to be precise,” Obama said, according to People.
In the same speech Obama told the audience that the food at The White House is better than what’s served a Buckingham Palace. Gino’s East’s Twitter account responded to the compliment with joy: “Thank you @MichelleObama, we think you are the best too!! We’re happy to send you pizzas any time!”

It’s not the first time the Obama family has spoken out about pizza. They’ve been partial to Italian Fiesta Pizzeria, a thin-crust spot in the South Shore. Michelle Obama has an interest in food, as she broke barriers as First Lady by spearheading a campaign to address childhood obesity.
