Rocks Is Bringing Its Relaxed Bar Vibe to River North

It won’t be a trendy theme bar

Less than four months after reopening Rocks Lakeview after the fire, the owners of the beloved bar and restaurant are opening another location. They’re taking over an empty bar space at 751 N. Clark Street in River North. It’s Rocks’ third location; they also run a bar/restaurant in North Center.

They’re a couple weeks away from opening in the small space. Unlike his previous two locations which serve food, owner George Manta wrote the new Rocks will solely be a tavern with a “beefed up version” of their beverage program. Manta intends to eventually serve snacks at this location.

“Rocks River North isn’t a great cocktail bar,” Manta wrote via email. “It’s not a great beer bar either. It’s not trendy, and it’s not some crazy theme bar. Rocks River North is just a great bar, period.”

That means playing bar games with friends. It’s about lighting that’s not so dim that patrons can’t see their friends while having conversations, Manta wrote. Expect a large whisky selection, solid cocktails, and “a beer selection that can hit the spot regardless of your beer snobbery level.”

The space, just south of Chicago Avenue, formerly was Adelaine’s, a bar that closed last year. Rocks River North will also have sidewalk seating. Come back in the coming weeks for updates on an opening date.
