After remaining dormant for almost two years, Twisted Hippo will soon debut its new brewpub inside the space that housed Breakroom Brewery and Finch Kitchen. The newly remodeled pub will host a party on New Year’s Eve. This is a ticketed event which will allow customers to sample the 13 draft beers the brewpub will have available, said co-owner Marilee Rutherford. The brewpub — which looks radically different from the space’s past tenants — should open to the general public in early January at 2925 W. Montrose Avenue.

“We wanted the space to look like you’ve never been there before,” said Marilee Rutherford, who co-owns the brewery with husband Karl Rutherford.

The space already looks brighter with a few neon pink and yellow touches. There’s fabric draped from the ceiling hiding the staircase to the second floor. The upstairs is still being set up, but there’s already a Killer Queen 10-player arcade video game cabinet ready to be plugged into an outlet. Twisted Hippo may add more games to the space in the future. Shuffleboard may be in the brewpub’s future. The space also has a full kitchen and bar so customers can order a cocktail.

Twisted Hippo brewery debuted in 2014 under the name Rude Hippo. The space’s previous tenants closed under unique circumstances. Neighborhood locals have been waiting to see how the third brewpub since 2016 will fare. The space is coming along and they’ll soon have the menu ready. Check back for more updates.
