Conrad’s Grill, a popular eatery for college kids that debuted 11 years ago near Michigan State University, is moving to the big city with a Wicker Park location. Conrad’s will next week debut its first Chicago location — and first outside the Mitten State — tapping into the city’s large Big Ten alumni base for a bit of nostalgia.
The fast-casual spot is best known for tater tot wraps. Fried potatoes inside a tortilla shell may not sound special, but legions of Spartan alums swear by the combo.
Ownership doesn’t call the signature item a burrito, though they share many of the same characteristics of the Mexican item. Instead, Conrad’s is “the original home of the Tot-Wrap.” They’re marketed as an all-day treat: Egg wraps are good for a quick breakfast, while cheesesteak or chicken tender wraps are capable of soaking up late-night alcohol.
Opening date is Wednesday, November 14 at 1422 W. Milwaukee Avenue. A local Chicago ownership group is determined to open three to five more Conrad’s locations in the city. Take a look around the first space below.
