— Mordecai, the Wrigleyville cocktail stalwart that’s nominated for the Eater Award for Chicago’s bar of the year, starts serving weekend brunch tomorrow. Notable dishes on Matthias Merges’ team’s menu include “Bloody Caesar Mussels” with tomato-vodka broth, bacon and a poached egg; the “Hamsel & Gretel” breakfast sandwich with ham steak and crispy sauerkraut; a fried oyster frittata; and cookie butter-stuffed French toast with apple jack butter. — Logan Square creative Midwestern-inspired hotspot Twain also kicks off Sunday brunch service this weekend. Chef-owner Tim Graham’s food menu includes cast iron butterscotch pecan rolls, while beverage director-sommelier Rebekah Graham has a full brunch cocktail menu.
— The Alinea Group revealed Next’s 2019 menu iterations this week, which are highlighted by a collaboration between culinary humanitarian José Andrés and Grant Achatz. José Andrés: World Central Kitchen will run from August 17 until January 12 in hopes of raising is over $250,000 for Andrés’ charity. The other iterations are the Silk Road-inspired Silk and Spice (January 19 - April 20) and Italian red sauce homage Italia from April 26 - August 11. — Every Starbucks in Illinois will soon be powered by 100 percent renewable wind energy, a news release announces. They include the forthcoming massive Mag Mile roastery — the largest Starbucks in the world — in addition to the more than 340 locations throughout the state.
— The latest addition to Wrigleyville’s ever-changing dining and drinking scene will be Do-Rite Donuts and Chicken, which opens on December 4 at 1027 W. Addison Street, a news release announces. In addition to doughnuts, chicken sandwiches, coffee, and chicken sandwiches served on doughnuts, this is the first Do-Rite to serve beer — Old Style on draft, naturally. It’ll be open daily for breakfast, lunch, and early dinner.
— Replay Lincoln Park is bringing back its “The Office” pop-up bar starting tonight through New Year’s Eve. This time, it focuses on Christmas parties at the fictional TV show office.
