Vegan food is polarizing, and that’s not just with any conflicts between omnivores and those who don’t eat meat. Within their community, vegans sometimes gripe about the quality of food options at restaurants. But the tide’s turning, and No Bones Beach Club, a Pacific Northwest import, hopes to give the Midwest a dose of vegan food that doesn’t suck. Seriously, that’s the restaurant’s motto: “just because it’s vegan doesn’t mean it sucks.”
That food is now available to the general public in Chicago. Owner MacKenzie DeVito writes that she and her team are currently “working through the soft opening process” and “are having our official opening day on Wednesday, December 5.” Walk-in patrons can dine there now, she confirms, but warns that hours are limited. Official hours and more information will soon be posted on the restaurant’s website and social channels.
Chicago marks No Bones’ third location. DeVito and team created a cozy spot with surfboards, mermaids, and more. There’s a bar with some strong drinks. The restaurant also features a strong brunch menu with vegan crab cake Benedicts, smoked carrot lox, and chile rellenos.
The main menu features Buffalo cauliflower wings, fried eggplant spears, and more. Check out some of the food items below which Chicagoans can try now in limited quantities and in full on December 5.
No Bones Beach Club, 1943 W. North Avenue, hours not posted yet.
