Liquid nitrogen ice cream officially returns to Chicago on Friday, this time in Lakeview where Chill N2 opens, giving patrons an interactive experience where they can watch their science in action. Fans say the liquid nitrogen ice cream is creamier than the traditional dessert and enjoy the incorporated mix-ins. Chill N2 holds its grand opening on Friday at 2935 N. Broadway Street.

Chicagoans have seen this type of wizardry before, as iCream did the liquid nitrogen thing for seven years before closing in 2015 at 1537 N. Milwaukee Avenue in Wicker Park. The concepts are similar, as customers can watch employees mix up their ice cream in stand mixers, using liquid nitrogen to freeze the ingredients in individual orders.

Sneak peak of our Liquid Nitrogen ice cream favors! Keep a lookout for our soft opening coming soon in January!!!

Chill N2’s website shows six ice cream flavors including “The Happy Camper” (chocolate ice cream, Graham crackers, marshmallow, caramel syringe) and “Strawberry Bomb” (strawberry, Graham cracker, mochi, condensed milk syringe). But don’t take the menu as official word — there was still some filler copy left on the site. There’s also eight combos for those who would rather trust tried and trusted flavor mixes, rather than risking mixing up a frozen treat to regret.

And yes, the menu does include the word “syringe.” As seen in the photos, the device is a way to inject flavor into the ice cream. It’s an edgy move that will probably have parents scratching their heads. The owners will also open the same concept in the suburbs. Snow Factory should open later this year in Bolingbrook.

It may be January, but ice cream can improve anyone’s day. Chill N2 officially opens on Friday hoping to put some more smiles on Lakeview residents’ faces.
