In the world of epic mash-ups, there’s Girl Talk’s Night Ripper, Jay-Z and Linkin Park’s Collision Course, and there’s New York’s Katz’s Deli and Chicago’s Au Cheval. On Thursday and Friday, February 15 and 16, the pastrami from Katz’s Deli and the burger from Au Cheval are coming together as one for two days only — fitting, since the body that is Valentine’s Day will still be warm.
The collaboration burger includes Katz’s pastrami, sharp American cheese, minced red onion, dill pickles, and dijonnaise. And yes, there’s an option to add a fried egg, if desired. Per usual, though, there’s no reservations at Au Cheval, so be prepared for a wait even longer than usual. So for something similar, though not quite as iconic, there is a pastrami burger available for $11.95 at Hogsalt’s Three Greens Market, with a Small Cheval burger topped with pastrami from Dillman’s.
If getting to Au Cheval isn’t in the cards, whether due to wait times or proximity, Katz’s will post a recipe for the burger (yes, a recipe for the Au Cheval burger) on its website and is offering nationwide delivery to get the same pastrami at home.
