It’s tough to run a neighborhood restaurant in this time and age, but the owners behind Heritage Restaurant & Caviar Bar think they’ve got what it takes to impress. The restaurant opens tonight at 2700 W. Chicago Ave., and replaces Bar Marta, a critically-acclaimed neighborhood spot that closed after a 19-month run. Over at Heritage, there’s decadent caviar, fresh pierogis, and infused-vodka on tap.
This is an all-day restaurant with breakfast items like kolachki and an Eastern European and Korean mash-up of smoked pork shoulder with kimchi, congee, and duck egg. That will hopefully keep the locals happy during in the morning. But it’s the evenings where the restaurant will make its name. Check out the full menu here. The caviar selections will shift depending on availability — caviar’s available as a platter or a la carte. There’s also beef heart pierogi and Heritage’s version of ramen.
Chef-owner Guy Meikle (Nana Organic in Bridgeport) helms the kitchen with Jan Henrichsen (Fat Rice in Logan Square) handling the beverages. They’re offering a few happy hour specials that could make people watching on patio along Chicago and Washtenaw that much more interesting.
Some may be put off by caviar and its aristocratic place in society. But Heritage hopes it can educate new customers while pushing the boundaries with old fans. Check out if they can deliver starting tonight.
