Blu 57, the Thai-fusion restaurant featuring a creative menu from a chef who cooked with Chicago Thai icon Arun Sampathavivat, is now open. Like Arun’s, Blu 57 features a fine-dining vibe. Located in Andersonville, chef Joe Sukjam will serve a six-course prix-fixe menu. Sukjam also worked at Taste of Thai Town, Sampathavivat’s casual Albany Park restaurant.

This is far from a typical Americanized Thai restaurant. There’s whole lobster and steakhouse selections including ribeye, New York strip, and filet mignon. The steaks feature more of a Western-style prep, seasoned with salt, black pepper, and garlic. Owner Jai Sookhakitch said the food would feature influences from all over the globe. The menu also includes miso creme-roasted walleye and tiger prawn squid ink pasta. There’s also a unique twist on tiramisu that adds Thai iced coffee.

The restaurant is BYO, and they’ll eventually add brunch and lunch service. Will the unique menu draw diners to Andersonville? Check out the fusion menu on Clark, as Blu 57 is now open.
