Eleven days after opening in Fulton Market, the restaurant inside Chicago’s sparkly new Ace Hotel begins dinner service. Giant’s Jason Vincent and Ben Lustbader are in charge of City Mouse with ex-Trenchermen chef Pat Sheerin overseeing the kitchen. The modern American menu items (see below) aren’t outwardly fancy and offer a little something for everyone.

The menu’s first item, “Country Mouse,” sets the whimsical tone for the restaurant. It’s a caviar shooter with cheddar and caramel. There are several pastas, plus a burger and filet mignon. Vegetarians and vegans have plenty to try including the “Roti Mopho.” The dish —made with sesame eggplant, dates, and feta— is a mash-up of several culinary cultures.

Pastries were a big part of Trenchermen and Bucktown’s loss is Fulton Market’s gain. City Mouse employs the talents of pastry chef Angela Diaz, a Trenchermen alum. An array of pastries are also featured at City Mouse. Acclaimed bartender Caitlin Laman’s drinks include two large-format elixirs. The “Big Pink Mimosa” is a fizzy way to start the day with grapefruit, Cocchi Americano, peach, and cava.

Read the menus below. Dinner goes from 5:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. daily. City Mouse also features brunch every day from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Check out the happy hour (3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. daily) and lounge menus, too. Food will be served until midnight. Reservations are available via Resy.
