Shake Shack is planning to open a location inside Willis Tower, Chicago’s tallest skyscraper and the United States’ tallest. It’ll be the New York-based fast-food chain its fifth location in the city.
Shake Shack should start serving burgers and concretes to tourists and Loop workers sometime in 2019 inside the base of the tower, according to the Tribune. It’s part of a large-scale plan for the former Sears Tower which will extend the lower floor by 300,000 square feet and fill it with bars, restaurants, retail, and entertainment.
Danny Meyer’s burger chain makes for solid publicity for the project, as Shake Shack is the first restaurant announced for the space. It’ll take up 3,000 square feet, according to the Trib. The restaurant will be located along the Tower’s under-construction Jackson Boulevard entrance.
There are Shake Shacks in River North, inside the Chicago Athletic Association Hotel in the Loop, in Fulton Market, and in suburban Skokie. The chain also plans to open near Wrigley Field in 2019 at the Addison & Clark development.
