There was some whining shortly after Publican Anker opened in November. Despite the excitement surrounding the arrival of the new Wicker Park restaurant—a spinoff of One Off Hospitality Group’s Fulton Market original—folks complained that the new place remained closed on weekday afternoons. Five months later and patience is about to be rewarded at the intersection of North, Damen, and Milwaukee. Anker will launch weekday lunch starting next week.
Beginning on Monday, May 15, Publican Anker will serve lunch from 11:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday through Friday. The menu’s different from the dinner and brunch offerings. For one, the Anker burger isn’t available for lunch. A Publican spokesman clarified that an all-day menu would be available, and that menu includes the burger and chicken wings.
But chef de cuisine A.J. Walker has added a few new sandwiches like Indian-inspired fried chicken (spiced honey, methi/fenugreek, cucumber slaw) and a squash sandwich (stracciatella, arugula, spicy tomato). There’s also small dishes like a grilled asparagus (farro, quinoa, watercress, provolone, chimichurri). Look for plenty of salad options, too.

A side effect of being open in the afternoon is that it allows patrons to come in and grab a drink from Anker’s lovely beer list. Check out the new lunch menu below. Publican Anker starts lunch next week. Lunch, dinner, and brunch reservations can be made via Reserve.
