A beloved Washington, D.C. sandwich purveyor is planning its first location in Chicago — and it may be just the first of many. Taylor Gourmet, which offers a selection of cheffy Philly-style hoagies in its many Beltway restaurants and is one of Eater D.C.’s iconic dishes, is coming to the Loop. The previously-local chain signed a lease at 1 N. Dearborn St., a rep confirms. DCist first reported this story. There’s no word yet on its opening timeframe.
Taylor Gourmet is known for its eclectic variety of cheffy sandwiches and sides, with a hoagie selection that runs from meaty to vegan to saucy to two types of cheesesteaks. Sides include risotto balls, mozzarella wedges, and seasonal vegetables. Former President Barack Obama is even a fan.
The chain currently operates 12 locations in Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia; although it is in expansion mode with five new restaurants already in the works in those areas. And now comes word of a Chicago spot — which may turn into multiple spots soon — as a rep tells DCist that “let's just say we're not looking to only open one location in a city that we're going to.” More to come soon.
