The gang behind Troquet is partnering with the owners of an Edgewater Japanese restaurant to open a sushi spot inside a River North hotel. Taketei Sushi should open a second location on May 1 inside the Hotel Felix at 111 W. Huron St., according to a news release. This is a joint effort between Taketei and Troquet’s parent company, LM Restaurant Group, which also runs Bistronomic.

Taketei opened its first location back in 2012 in Edgewater. The quaint BYO space is known for its simple rolls and affordable prices. It seems there will be an effort to bring that simplicity and affordability to River North. The new restaurant will also offer alcohol—sake, plus Japanese beer and whiskeys will be on the drink list.

Though the River North space has room for a counter—unlike the Edgewater location—it’s still tiny. The sushi bar’s seating area should have room for 10 people, plus outdoor seating for 12 more. Hotel Felix guests will also have the benefit of ordering sushi for room service. While River North has its share of sushi restaurants, there’s not an abundant of affordable options. Perhaps the new Taketei is the anecdote for those sushi lovers who miss Ginza, the venerable sushi spot that closed in 2013 after 26 years inside the Tokyo Hotel (now the Freehand), also in River North.

Check out the draft menu below. A spokeswoman said they may scale back offerings. Taketei should open on May 1.
