Ashok Selvam is the editor of Eater Chicago and a native Chicagoan armed with more than two decades of award-winning journalism. Now covering the world of restaurants and food, his nut graphs are super nutty.

As construction continues near Wrigley Field, adding some top-notch restaurants and bars to the neighborhood, existing haunts are left to ponder how they will compete. The management behind Moe’s Cantina has made a bold decision to close and renovate, building a new rooftop bar that will provide views of Wrigley Field from their Clark Street location. Ownership has provided renderings of what they hope to build in Wrigleyville.

Moe’s has been closed since New Year’s Day, according to management, and crews have been working. The first floor should debut to the public on Cubs’ opening night on April 10. They await city approval for the rooftop so they can’t pin an exact date, but an opening could happen this summer.

Besides the rooftop, management said they want to make the space to feel more like a restaurant rather than like a bar/club. They’re also adding a grab-and-go taco stand, ideal for fans who want a quick bite as they walk toward the Friendly Confines. Ownership also runs John Barleycorn in Wrigleyville, and Old Crow in Wrigleyville and River North. They’ve commissioned local artist David Bozic, who also worked on artwork at El Hefe Chicago, to decorate Moe’s new interiors.

Take a look at the renderings below.
