The Alinea Group’s Nick Kokonas has officially broke his silence about that project he and chef Grant Achatz teased out last month: It’s the long-rumored New York City expansion of The Aviary, their acclaimed Fulton Market cocktail bar. This summer, the team will open Aviary NYC on the 35th floor of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in New York. They’re also opening a Big Apple location of The Office, the complementary speakeasy below Chicago’s Aviary.
Check out the new Aviary NYC website that Kokonas unveiled today. Aviary beverage director Micah Melton, a 2015 Eater Young Gun, will again be involved in the New York project.
It’s great news for New York drinkers. But this means Chicago will have to wait for news on the former Moto space. There’s nothing new on what the Alinea Group could be planning there. Kokonas has been full of announcements lately. In addition to this Aviary expansion, but he and Tock, his restaurant reservation portal, have recently waged a public PR battle against OpenTable.
We've been working on something pretty cool.
