The third iteration of Adolfo Garcia and Phil Stefani’s taco-focused cantina is opening during the second week of April, according to a news release. Broken English Taco Pub, as previously reported, is taking over the shuttered Kings County Tap at the corner of Sheffield and Lincoln avenues. But this location has a twist, as the space will be outfitted with vintage arcade video games and foosball tables. They’re preparing to open on the weekend of April 8.

The video game cabinets make sense as Garcia and Stefani have worked out an operating agreement with the owners of the property, LKH Management. They own the Replay Beer & Bourbon arcade/bars in Boystown, Andersonville, and Lincoln Park. The arcade element could also do well to attract college students, as DePaul University is nearby. Though older adults hardly say no to nostalgia.

The space’s build out is unique, as they’ve used the bones of the former Etno Village Grill and the former Hoagie Hut. Broken English is dividing the space in themes. There’s the aforementioned arcade room, then there’s the East Bar where they’ll have 20 draft lines. But it won’t all be beer. Kegged cocktails, including margaritas on tap, will be available.

The outdoor space on the westside of the building will also feature its own bar with room for 100. They’ll also hang televisions outside ideal to watch baseball on a hot summer day.

Colorful artwork has become a hallmark at Broken English with Garcia using his design talents and employing a bevy of local artists. They’re working on the mural right now and there will be piñatas on the bar’s ceilings.

Another point to note is Gina Stefani, Phil’s daughter, is taking a larger role in the company. She proved her self by the success of MAD Social in the West Loop and now will have a great impact on existing and upcoming projects.

Broken English has locations in The Loop and Old Town. Check back for more in the coming weeks as tacos and tequilas attempt to breathe life into long-dormant restaurant space.
