Lincoln Square now has details about what’s going inside the former Bad Dog Tavern/Mash, the space with one of the neighborhood’s best patios at 4535 N. Lincoln Avenue. The replacement restaurant will be called Warbler and it’s slated for a January opening. They’ll serve American food with the ever-popular Asian influences.
Warbler’s ownership is the same as the restaurant that it neighbors. Gather opened in 2012, and the two spots share a wall. Chicago, which broke the story, reported that Gather/Warbler owner David Breo instructed crews to gut the space and that the patio will be partially covered. Customers with crying babies won’t be turned away at Warbler; Breo wants to make room for Lincoln Square’s many strollers. Tempura green beans could appear on the menu, a menu that should be vegetable heavy — one of the biggest restaurant trends in Chicago in 2017. That’s trend that’s been seen at Daisies in Logan Square, Clever Rabbit in Wicker Park, and Bad Hunter in West Loop.
Mash closed around December of last year. It was a short-lived reboot from the owners of Bad Dog Tavern. Bad Dog’s ownership relaunched the space in 2015.
