—Tickets to Donut Fest Chicago go on sale at noon on Friday. The event takes place on January 28 at Chop Shop’s 1st Ward in Bucktown/Wicker Park. The lineup includes Firecakes, Stan's Donuts, Glazed & Infused, Gurnee Donuts, West Town Bakery, Ipsento, Doughnut Vault, Longman & Eagle, DeEtta's Bakery, D&D's Place, GBD Cakes & Sweets, and Roeser's Bakery. Workers at the West Side bakery owned by the Swiss company which bakes buns elsewhere for McDonald’s gathered on Monday to protest poor working conditions at Cloverhill Bakery in Galewood. The coalition of Black and Latino workers said that the company (Aryzta AG) unjustly paints itself as the victim of ICE raids when wages and benefits for workers are so low. Participants included Black Workers Matters and Cook County Commissioner Jesús “Chuy” Garcia. The complaints include long 12- to 16-hour shifts and a lack of support for employees hurt on the job. There’s a thinking that the bakery takes advantage of poor and vulnerable victims and regards them as disposable. Workers said this practice is racist. Earlier this month on an earnings call, company executives claimed to have lost $21 million from the immigrant raids.

World of Beer is not coming to the South Loop as originally thought. Signage had heen up for two years in the windows at a space at The Roosevelt Collection at 150 W. Roosevelt Road. Sloopin reported that the deal fell through, as the signage was removed. The developers are working on finding a replacement tenant. World of Beer, a chain of bars with food and craft brews, has locations in suburban Evanston and Naperville.

In more Star Wars-related food and drink news around town, Alulu — the brewpub that opened earlier in Pilsen — will unveil a series of items inspired by the movies. RedEye reported that they’ll served a dry-rubbed brisket (Brualki Brisket) from Dex’s Diner, a restaurant in 2002’s Attack of the Clones. The Gamorrean Tenderloin is named for the pig-like warriors that debuted in 1983’s Return of the Jedi. Alulu is also offering beer pairings. The items are available through Sunday. Yes, there’s a new Star Wars movie coming out this week.

—Getting back to what matters — doughnuts — Glazed & Infused has unveiled a series of holiday doughnuts including Santa’s Spiked Eggnog (eggnog custard filled Bismarck with a rum-spike glaze, nutmeg and tangerine). Other flavors included cranberry-white chocolate, pecan pie cheesecake, peppermint mocha old fashioned, and “raspberry cream holiday dream.” Get them while they last at the shop’s various locations.
