—Workers at the West Side bakery owned by the Swiss company which bakes buns elsewhere for McDonald’s gathered on Monday to protest poor working conditions at Cloverhill Bakery in Galewood. The coalition of Black and Latino workers said that the company (Aryzta AG) unjustly paints itself as the victim of ICE raids when wages and benefits for workers are so low. Participants included Black Workers Matters and Cook County Commissioner Jesús “Chuy” Garcia. The complaints include long 12- to 16-hour shifts and a lack of support for employees hurt on the job. There’s a thinking that the bakery takes advantage of poor and vulnerable victims and regards them as disposable. Workers said this practice is racist. Earlier this month on an earnings call, company executives claimed to have lost $21 million from the immigrant raids.

The Gamorrean Tenderloin is named for the pig-like warriors that debuted in 1983’s Return of the Jedi. Alulu is also offering beer pairings. The items are available through Sunday.
