With game three of the NLDS currently at Wrigley Field, season ticket holders and other Cubs fans will be happy to hear that craft beer selections have diversified, the Tribune reported. Lagunitas IPA has been added to 27 draft lines throughout the stadium, replacing Goose Island 312 Urban Ale and Green Line Pale Ale taps since the September 29 game against the Cincinnati Reds.
The change is only guaranteed for today’s game 3, but it sounds like Levy Restaurants plans on keeping the change at Wrigley at least through playoff season. Goose Island is still offered at various locations throughout the stadium, as this beer move looks mostly like a long overdue diversification in the Wrigley Field craft beer scene (previously primarily only Anheuser-Busch selections since 2013, which helped a little after a long run of mostly Old Style).
However, it should be noted that the change came merely five days after the Alcohol Tax and Trade Bureau and Illinois Liquor Commission announced an investigation in pay to play schemes happening throughout the city focused on keeping competition out of certain locations, as noted by the Tribune.
Whatever the case is, the more craft beer choices available during baseball playoff season, the better.
