FireFin Poke Shop isn’t the only fast-casual restaurant hotspot heading to the former Spin nightclub space in Lakeview. Furious Spoon, the burgeoning and bustling ramen chain from the same ownership, is also heading to the northwest corner of Belmont and Halsted. A representative projects a summer opening at 3200 N. Halsted St.
The Lakeview shop, which will be the fifth Furious Spoon, will serve a similar menu of chef Shin Thompson’s ramen noodles and snacks, as well as beer, sake, and cocktails. It will also have a similar vibe as the other full locations, including loud throwback hip-hop music, and seat 80 people inside its 2,000 square-foot space. The brand began when its original Wicker Park shop opened in February 2015, which was followed by its Logan Square location with a full bar, a stall in the Loop’s Revival Food Hall, and its Pilsen location is now slated to open in the spring.
Despite the ramen saturation happening in some other neighborhoods, Lakeview doesn’t have as many options yet. Jinya Ramen Bar is a few blocks south on Diversey, Four Belly Asian Street Food serves ramen on Clark Street north of Belmont, and Strings ramen is opening soon down the street in the former Ramenster spot at 919 W. Belmont Ave. They’ll be joined by Furious Spoon, perhaps Chicago’s most popular ramen spot, in a few months.
