Slightly Toasted, the all-day bar featuring sweet and savory toasts and a hefty whisky selection, plans to open on Monday in the West Loop. The former owners of Oak + Char want to grab the commuter breakfast crowd and appease their boozy happy hour sensibilities after they clock out of work.
After the anticipated morning breakfast rush that should start at 7 a.m., Slightly Toasted should appeal to folks wanting to host work meetings or office dwellers who want a grab-and-go lunch. The seats along the windows look comfy so laptoppers could strap it down and finish some work.
Gourmet toasts, available all day, highlight the menu. They include the breakfast cereal-inspired cinnamon toast (thick-cut white bread, cinnamon butter, apples, cheese espuma, spiced pecan) and a deconstructed steak & egg toast (sourdough, steak tartare, roasted garlic aioli, egg).
But the 2,200-square-foot space is not all coffee shop. Upscale finishes bring some fine-dining flair, and come March they’ll launch a biweekly Saturday night dinner series. It’s called Mecúrio, which will allow the sibling chef team of Brenda and Omar Garcia to cook fancier items for multi-course menu. There’s only a 7 p.m. seating each Saturday and reservations will be available via Tock. A menu wasn’t immediately available.
For those who just want to unplug, there’s plenty of craft beer and whisky. Other drinks include a hot toddie for two and a rotating punch. The marble bar seats 16 and there’s a 70-seat patio. Slightly Toasted can also host private events up to 1,000.
Check out the interior photos and the daily food menu below. Folks can start getting Slightly Toasted on Monday.
