A new Chinese restaurant from a former partner at Phoenix Restaurant—the Chinatown dim sum stalwart—is opening on Friday at 11 a.m. near the University of Illinois at Chicago. It’s called Jade Court, 626 S. Racine Ave., and they’re serving Cantonese items, smoothies and bubble tea.

Eddie Cheung, Phoenix’s former director of operations, and his daughter, Carol Cheung, have taken over the former Dough Boys pizza location. That space had been vacant for four years, as Dough Boys closed in 2012. They’ll have regular lunch specials and a slate of three to four rotating specials every afternoon.

Expect the regular Chinese-American favorites like Mongolian beef, egg foo young and cashew chicken. There’s a small dining room and they’ll also offer carry out and delivery.

Cheung’s former restaurant, Phoenix, opened in 1995 and has attracted huge crowds over the last 21 years. The dining room is especially packed during the mornings and afternoons for dim sum when they employ traditional cart service.

Jade Court, 626 S. Racine Ave., (312) 929-4828, dining room open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily; take-out and delivery available from 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. daily
