Cemitas Puebla last week stealthily opened their third location. South Siders can now visit their Hyde Park location inside the former Packed address. Mini cemitas, tacos and breakfast items are new wrinkles for chef/owner Tony Anteliz’s newest restaurant.
The restaurant was packed in the last few days with Hyde Park residents and University of Chicago students finding a safe space, hoping that Cemitas becomes a community stalwart. It’s unlike Packed which lasted a disappointing nine months.
Anteliz has been coy about the opening. He’s said how excited he is to be in Hyde Park. The first Cemitas opened in 2002, and Anteliz has since opened a flagship restaurant on Fulton Market where his staff bakes those delectable Mexican rolls for his cemitas.
So far Hyde Parkers have responded positively, which is different from the previous tenant.
Cemitas Puebla, 1321 E. 57th St., open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays; 9 a.m. to midnight on Saturday.
